Bleakness

January is over--the longest, coldest month of the year.

It is the month that seems to start two days after Christmas and drags on forever with its 31 days. The snow seems never to be fresh in January, it is always gray and dirty and hard. January is the month of inversions and bad air that chokes up lungs.

But it is over.
And February is here.

Except sometimes February just seems a continuation of January.
In which case, I wish I was a bear and could hibernate in the winter.

Any ideas of how to enjoy the ugliest coldest longest loneliest months of the year?

One really nice thing about February is that it has Valentine's Day in it. Which, honestly, can be a stressful day at the socially intense BYU. However, I think there IS another way--Adam and I have been having so much fun planning and making valentines for all his little friends. Just for the joy of it and because we're thankful they are his friends. And I know that those little two and three year olds will be tickled to just receive something. So I recommend making cute-sy or funny valentines to give to the people you truly love, all romance aside. Like Anna Rose and Amanda and Michael. And Samuel and Joseph could probably use some, too, even if they act like they don't. :) Or overworked awesome dad bishops. Etc. Anyway, if you try it, I hope it is a source of happiness and brightness for you. :)

And secondly, February has President's Day, which you might even get off at BYU. In which case, you should not study all day (since it is the only break you get all semester)--you should go do something fun/relaxing/adventurous. So there's all my advice. :)

Serendipity

The Oxford English dictionary describes serendipity as "the faculty of making happy and unexpected discoveries by accident. Also, the fact or an instance of such a discovery."
